Plus-Size Fashion
When the term fashion is said, first thing comes in my mind is comfort irrespective of size and style. Styles without comfort may be
used for a short time fashion show, but cannot be used for daily purpose and has no practical significance. Now to
understand comfort, we have to go inside the fabric that we are using, its constituent elements, fibers or filaments.
Fibers with good moisture absorption property will give you comfort during summer. Pure Cotton is best for the comfort
purpose, but its durability and grace are lower than a 70/30 Cotton/Polyester blend. Cotton is blended with Viscose Rayon
to give an apparent look like pure Cotton, so be aware, if the fabric is glossy in its white state, it cannot be pure
Cotton. However, today for most stylist garments are manufactured with Cotton-Polyester blends with varying proportions.
Synthetic fibers like Polyesters (Terylene, Dacron etc) are very durable, anti-shrink, and glossy but have very low moisture
regain properties. Hence, fabrics made up of only Polyesters or only Rayon are harmful for skin and not comfortable also.
In winter, pure Wool will provide you maximum warmth, but for your information, pure Woolen fabric is not very comfortable
and also wear out (very less abrasion resistant) especially after one or two washings and also have dull appearance. As Wool fiber has a corrugated,
scaly surface, even after finishing, its scales can not be removed totally, hence its surface will give you some pinching
sensation. Instead of 100% pure Wool, Worsted fabrics, i.e., Wool-Polyester or Wool-Viscose blends are good and much
durable, glossy and comfortable to skin. The choice is yours, if you have lot of money you can go for 100% Woolen
fabric, but remember, dry cleaning is the best practice for pure Wool.
Pure Silk fabric is harsh in feeling even after degumming and finishing, because silk filament has a sharp triangular cross-
section. But what we get in the market as pure Silk seems smooth because, they are blended with high percentage of Xanthate
Rayon. The lusture of Silk fabric is due to the reflection of lights from its sharp triangular surfaces. However, pure
Silk is available in some reputed stores but the cost is very high.
Fashion according to your Body Type :
Plus-size women, like all women, fall into specific categories of body types. Body types have nothing to do with sizes,
but a woman's body type determines which clothing styles are most suitable for her. Standing in front of a full-length
mirror you can assume under which categories your figure is falling. Now, take your comparison or measurements and look
at where they fit in the body types.
Knowing the characteristics of the seven specific body types will help you determine your type, as well as what looks
best on you. There is no right or wrong body type, but hourglass body type is the best. Knowing your body type, however, can help
you select clothing that is most flattering to you, helping you to always look your best.
1. Diamond
Diamonds carry the most weight in the middle, and the waist is not clearly defined, lower portion heavy and wide
but the shoulders are smaller. Shoulder pads and horizontal necklines help widen the shoulders and draw attention away
from the waist, creating a more balanced look for your figure.
2. Triangle
Triangles as the name implies have wide lower portion and a defined waist with shoulders and chest line are proportionately
smaller. Shoulder pads, lighter colors and wide necklines broaden the appearance of the upper body.
3. Rectangle
The rectangle body type has no clearly defined waist, lower portions are similar in size. The body, from shoulders
to legs, appears to be straight up and down. Rectangles should dress to create the illusion of a more defined waistline
and curvier silhouette.
4. Oval
Ovals have no clearly defined waist, but they do have a prominent tummy. They usually have a fuller top portion, with
proportionately slender arms and legs. Ovals look best in clothes that emphasize their lower parts while de-emphasizing
their waist.
5. Hourglass
An hourglass body type has a defined waist that is smaller than the lower and upper body portions, which are similar
in size. Open collars, v-necklines, and clothing that accentuate the curves are the best clothes for an hourglass.
A perfect hourglass shape can be obtained by exercise, and it is difficult but not impossible to maintain.
6. Inverted Triangle
An inverted triangle body type is the opposite of the triangle. The shoulders are larger, with the waist, and rest of the
lower portions being proportionately smaller. Wearing darker colors on the top and lighter colors on the bottom will help
balance out the inverted triangle's silhouette.
7. Figure Eight
The figure eight is a combination of body types. The overall shape is like the hourglass, but with fuller lower portions
like the triangle. The waist is defined, but less so, and the oval's prominent tummy may be present. Dress to elongate
the torso and de-emphasize the fuller bottom. Open collars and v-necklines will help draw attention to the face,
neck and chest.

Swimsuits :
One of the most exciting parts about the summer is going bathing suit shopping right before beach season. In the past,
it was difficult for plus-sized women to enjoy this time, because there were very few swimsuit options available to them,
making it difficult to find something to enjoy the beach in. These days, because there are so many plus-sized swimwear
options available for women sized 12 and above, curvy women no longer need to worry about whether or not they will find
swimwear to fit in time for summer. When it comes to purchasing swimwear, there are three different factors that you must
take into account. The first is style, the second is price and the third is function. You should never have to disregard
comfort simply for the sake of fashion, by purchasing a bikini or a thong. Comfort and function are just as important as
style and fashion when it comes to choosing a bathing suit, so make sure that whatever you choose is comfortable for you
and looks stunning at the same time.
Tankini :
If you are dead set on a two piece, you may want to opt for a tankini which is a two piece swimsuit featuring a tank
top style top piece rather than a revealing bikini top. You should also look for suits, which offer slightly
less revealing cuts, like higher cut necklines and lower cuts around your legs. These cuts are not meant to
conceal your curves, but rather they do a fine job of accenting the ones that you do want to show off.
Skirted Suits :
If you would like to add more coverage to your lower portions, skirted swimsuits are a great choice. Skirted swimsuits
offer short, flowy skirts to cover your bottom half a little better, while still lending to the slinky look provided by
the swimsuit.
Sharee :
Unlike Western cultures, most of the Indian women prefer to wear Sharees, which are nearly 14 to 15 ft long and 3.5 to 4 ft
wide piece of fabric found in different colours, styles, printed or decorated by threads either by embroidery machines
or by hand stitching. Sharees have different techniques of wearing that varies from culture to culture. But one great
importance of sharees is that they are suitable for all sizes of women. According to
the manufacturing origin and techniques of manufacturing, Sharees can be broadly classified as :
Benarashi :
Silk fabric decorated with coloured threads or fancy yarns. The design being populated from Venarash, a historical
place in U.P, India. Benarashi Sharees may have decoration of Rolex, glass, silver or even gold. During marriage
ceremony, bride generally wears Benarashi sharee due to its gorgeous look. The cost of this sharee may be as high
as 20 lakh rupees, i.e. 42,644 U.S. dollars.
Bomkai Tant :
cotton fabric with boutique work on surface. Sometimes boutique is done on the surface of pure Silk also.
Dhakai Jamdani :
Cotton blended fabric with stitched decoration on surface originated from Dhaka, Bangladesh.
